12/20/2022 - Last weekend was one of my favorite semi-annual days at Walt Disney World where vintage fashion lovers come together to celebrate style through the decades at a fan-organized event called Dapper Day. This year, I attended with my friend Tori and we decided to go Disney's Hollywood Studios. Naturally, as Star Wars fans, we wanted our outfits to somehow tie into the theming of Galaxy's Edge. After brainstorming, we settled on styling outfits that are inspired by the outfits that cast members wear in Batuu. We had such a great day getting dressed up and taking photos throughout Black Spire Outpost. 12/20/2021 - Long time no update! As I'm writing this, my Zam Wesell costume is actually COMPLETE! I haven't had time lately to update the build progress, so I'm going to retroactively walk you through the past few months and show you what it took to finish up the costume. Today I'll be going over how I made the chest armor, painted the shins, made the ankle armor, and painted the blaster. Making the Chest ArmorWhen I originally started this build, I thought the fiberglass chest armor I received with the rest of my armor/greeblie parts would be used on my final costume. Once I got further into the build and realized how much shorter my torso is compared to Leeanna Walsman's torso, I realized that I would need to scale down some of my armor parts to fit me better. Since my original chest armor was solid fiberglass, I didn't really want to deal with cutting and resizing it, so I decided to start from scratch. I used the original chest armor to make a template out of paper and resized it to my Collapse

4/17/2021 - I've been making so much progress on my Zam Wesell costume and I'm excited to share some updates here. For my birthday this year, I only wanted to take a couple days off work and focus on this costume project. In just a few short days, I completed the vest and skirt. I also completed the final pair of pants and shirt a few weeks ago, so I have lots of progress to share today. Final Under SuitDuring my last update, I shared my prototype pants and felt confident that I was ready to start sewing the real pair. The day before I planned on sewing the real pair, I was searching through more reference photos and noticed another bubble seam that I originally hadn't caught in my first round of prototypes. The bubble seam is on the inner thigh and I couldn't figure out how to reconstruct my pants to include that seam. After several hours of thinking and sketching, I solved the mystery! I made a tiny little doll-sized pair of pants to test my new pattern and it worked like a charm. I got Collapse
My Zam Wesell Costume Build Begins

3/2/2021 - Today marks the beginning of a very exciting endeavor. I'm finally starting my Zam Wesell costume build! This cosplay has been a dream of mine for about eight years now and I can't believe I'm actually starting on it. I plan to document the entire build process here on The Dorky Diva, so let's start with what I've got so far. Zam wears a very specific pair of Prada boots from the early 2000s that are insanely difficult to find these days. Not only are they tough to find, but they usually range from $500-$1,500 for a pair in decent condition if you are able to track them down. The most important part about the shoes are the soles. These iconic Vibram soles are visible on Zam's boot while the rest of the shoe is mostly covered by her shin armor and other details. While I could have found these soles a little easier than the entire screen-accurate boot, I really wanted the exact same pair that she wore in Attack of the Clones. I got incredibly lucky this past week after many Collapse

9/29/2022 - This update is so overdue, but I wanted to share the final Zam Wesell costume. I finished it for a test run in December 2021 to wear at Emerald City Comic Con and then made a few small improvements for Star Wars Celebration Anaheim in May. I had the best time wearing it that weekend! Huge thanks to Wes Ellis for these fantastic photos and to Arturo Delgado for joining the fun in his Jango Fett costume. Collapse

8/25/2021 - A brand new edition of Celestial Sisters is here! This season we are highlighting four amazing bounty hunting babes in the galaxy- Fennec Shand, Aurra Sing, Zam Wesell, and Sy Snootles. Tori from Creature Cartel designed three accessories while Alyssa from Whimsy Design & Illustration and I teamed up to make three different designs for T-shirts, coffee mugs, and decals.Accessories.Tori created three beautiful accessories for this collection. For Zam Wesell, she took inspiration from Zam's leather skirt and created a necklace that has a similar pattern as a bar pendant. I love this design because it's super subtle, but as a Zam Wesell fan I can immediately recognize the nod to her character. For Aurra Sing, Tori took inspiration from Aurra's epic ponytail and created an orange velvet scrunchie with painted wood beads sewed to the scrunchie, much like the beads that are in Aurra's hair. Lastly, for Fennec, she absolutely nailed the textured design from Collapse

3/22/2021 - It's been a few weeks since I received my Zam Wesell boots and I've already made some good progress on the beginning steps of the costume, so I wanted to update you all with what I've done. Since I intend to document the full process of this build, I came up with a cute little series title for all of these posts- The Clawdite Chronicles! Each post will have the date in the title along with a brief summary of what I'm covering. I hope this will be helpful to anyone who might be wanting to make their own Zam Wesell costume in the future. Once thing I've noticed during my many hours of online research is that there are very few photos and very little information from people who have built this costume. The Dented Helmet forums have quite a few threads of progress builds, but the pictures no longer load because they were hosted on Photobucket and that platform doesn't really work anymore.Anyways, let's get into it!Creating a Build PlanBetween the fabric parts, leather goods, armored Collapse

The Clawdite Chronicles 12.28.21 - Making the Holster, Helmet, and Finishing Touches

12/28/2021 - We've (almost) made it to the end of The Clawdite Chronicles! I'll be doing one final update with "reveal" photos of my Zam Wesell costume, but today I will be covering all of the details for how I created the holster, helmet, and finishing touches. Making the HolsterAfter making the leather skirt for this costume, I still had enough leftover leather hide to create the holster, helmet brim, and abdomen detail. I wanted to dye these pieces all at once so the color would be consistent throughout. To make the holster, I used reference photos of the holster made by Cal at Far Away Creations. The photos of the holster he made for his wife really helped me understand the overall shape of the holster and how to cut the leather. I made a pattern out of paper and affixed it to the cummerbund to make sure it was the right scale. I also made sure to test fit the paper around my blaster to be extra sure that it would all fit together. After that, I used the paper template to cut my leather Collapse

8/18/2021 - It's been a few months since I last sat down to compile all of my Zam Wesell cosplay updates, so I have a lot to share today. Since my previous update in April, I've made the cummerbund and hanging beads. I've also received my armor pieces, blaster pieces, and started working on the armor elements.Making the CummerbundThis piece alone was the most difficult piece of the costume I've had to make thus far. The cummerbund is a belt-like ribbed leather piece that covers the bottom of her vest and top of the skirt. It features four channels that are filled to have some dimension, with stitches in between each channel. It's laced up with speed hooks on the back and at the front right hip, which requires the cummerbund to be made in two pieces. My first attempt at this cummerbund wasn't a terrible try, but I had a very difficult time filling the channels and figuring out how to enclose each end of the cummerbund similar to the way the movie costume appears. After many weeks of fighting Collapse

5/25/2021 - A brand new edition of Celestial Sisters is here! This season we are highlighting two of the most amazing Star Wars characters, Sabine Wren and Hera Syndulla from Star Wars Rebels. Tori from Creature Cartel designed two accessories while Alyssa from Whimsy Design & Illustration and I teamed up to make two different designs for T-shirts, coffee mugs, and decals.Accessories.Tori created two beautiful accessories for this collection. Here's what she had to say about the design inspiration..."I was beyond inspired by the vibrant color palettes each character has and really wanted to bring those through in their pieces! For Sabine, something sturdier like a leather bracelet just felt right and I wanted to make a point of capturing her artistic spirit through the paint splatters and smudges. For Hera something feminine but not too frilly made sense, so when I found the suede tassels in a muted green I knew that was it! In brainstorming with my fellow Celestial Sisters, we landed Collapse

12/15/2020 - Twenty twenty. What a fussy little thing you've been. This year has felt like an entire decade smashed into 366 horrific days (you already forgot it was a leap year, right?). Despite the rough days and the monotony of not leaving the house, I managed to stay positive for the majority of this year and wanted to remember the good things that happened over the last 12 months. We'll all remember the bad of 2020, so I'm going to commemorate the good. Let's do this! These are my favorite things that happened in 2020...New MusicListening to good music has been a constant source of joy for me this year. On March 15th right at the beginning of my time in quarantine, Donald Glover released a surprise album on his website that was only live for 24 hours. It eventually made its way to a widespread release, but it was so exhilarating listening to this new album for the very first time.
